Overview
Jones comes from unheralded Wayne State (located in Detroit, Mich.) and has decent size for the corner position. He is a very savvy corner who understands how to play the position and plays well in zone coverages. He is fast and athletic, and shows a good burst when he is working in and out of his pedal. He shows the toughness and willingness to play special teams early on at the next level, and could go in the seventh round to a team needing corner depth and willing to help develop his skills.
Analysis
Strengths
Jones is a very smart player and it's obvious that he studies offensive tendencies. In man, he can stay close with any receiver and has good athletic ability there to turn his hips. He has good technique even though he's from such a small school and has likely had limited coaching at the position, and he his footwork is in tune with his body when he covers. He plays well in zone and is a real good short-area player to show a burst and get to the ball.
Weaknesses
Jones has a tough time adjusting to balls that are thrown when he is running away from the line of scrimmage. He can get out-jumped by bigger wide receivers, and although he looks aware to make plays on the ball in zone has not shown the skills in man to make ball plays. He is a decent and willing tackler, but can get run over by bigger competition.
