Overview
Maehl has the mentality, intangibles and savvy to become a reserve wide receiver who provides additional value on special teams. However, he lacks the explosiveness, deep speed and strength to be considered a potential future starter. Is a technically-sound route runner but lacks burst out of breaks to beat man coverage at the next level and is susceptible to being jammed at the line. Efficient and productive when working against zone coverage. Hands are solid but does not have the physicality to make too many contested grabs. Can make some plays after the catch but won't scare a defense vertically. Maehl's a late-round prospect.
Analysis
Strengths
Maehl has an adequate combination of height and speed for the next level. Does a nice job getting open against zone coverage. Capable of locating soft spots against zone. Flashes the ability to pluck and snatch away from frame. Can track the deep ball. Shows toughness over the middle.
Weaknesses
Lacks bulk and strength. May have difficulty beating NFL press coverage. Likely will not win fair share of 50/50 jump-ball battles at the next level. Does not possess the explosiveness to consistently separate from man coverage. Lacks big-play or downfield potential. Will need to add power to ensure blocking production matches effort.
