Royal is at his best with the ball in his hands in the open field. He struggles a bit with physical corners and hasn't yet developed into a consistent receiver. Generated considerable buzz after a strong showing during the practice sessions of the Senior Bowl, catching the ball cleanly and showcasing the natural playmaking ability that wasn't often taken advantage of at Virginia Tech due to inconsistent play at quarterback.

Positives: Mercurial speed. ... Game-changing big-play threat capable of going the distance every time he touches the ball. ... Good quickness off the snap and has the agility, strength and vertical speed to challenge defenders with a variety of routes. ... Can track the ball over his shoulder. ... At his best with the ball in his hands, as he can make defenders look foolish with his ability to change directions and acceleration. Negatives: Lacks prototype size for the position at 5-feet-10, 184 pounds. ... Struggles a bit getting off physical jams. ... Shows frustration when his athleticism isn't enough. ... Didn't have the benefit of a consistent passing attack at Virginia Tech. ... Allows too many passes to get into his pads, resulting in drops.
