Overview

Powell is a late-rising prospect who only moved over to the defensive side of the ball during the 2010 season after failing to solidify himself as a receiver. Has an impressive frame for the position and has shown potential as a cover guy. Brings value to a team as a return specialist. Has the type of natural ability to be a hidden gem late in the draft.

Analysis

Strengths

Powell is a gifted athlete who displays a good burst and vision as a returner. As a corner, he is comparable playing in both man and zone, and possesses the innate physical traits to develop within both schemes. Can recover well on deep balls, and is fairly fluid in his hips when running with a receiver.

Weaknesses

Powell is still developing as a corner and teams will have to assume he will fill a void as a returner early on to justify a pick on him. Still working out certain flaws in his erect backpedal and overall footwork.
