  • 10 3/8" Hands

Big target with sure hands. Has just four drops over his four seasons at North Carolina. Finds open areas against zone and sits quickly while opening to find the pass. Willing to work middle of the field and can secure catch through contact. Gets in the way enough to make a difference as a blocker. Long frame can lock into cornerbacks and neutralizes them as a run blocker.

Slow into his routes and could have issues countering press coverage. Tight-hipped in his movement. Looks awkward and unbalanced when attempting to sink into his breaks. Has no separation quickness out of his cuts and will have to wear tight man coverage like a sweater. Lacks functional speed to challenge corners who are squatting on his work underneath. Expected to run poorly at the combine.

Bottom Line

Howard has the height and weight part, but is missing the speed and that could make finding a draft-day home a challenge. Howard is a possession receiver who can work in traffic and catch what is thrown to him, but he is unable to create enough separation with his routes. Howard's lack of special teams experience is another obstacle he may have to overcome to make a roster.
