Overview

McClain has been a reliable contributor for Clemson since his freshman year, starting the last three years at guard. He is a huge player for an interior lineman but has only average athletic ability. He is good to stick on his blocks in the run game and has fifth-round value based on his size and experience.

Analysis

Strengths

McClain excels in the run game as he is able to keep his strong hands on blocks and drive his mass upward to get a push and create space. He can recover on rushers if he is beaten initially off the snap. He is a serviceable pass protector who won't allow many sacks. He uses his big body well and will protect nicely against bigger nose tackles at the next level.

Weaknesses

McClain is an OK athlete who is much better blocking in close quarters than he is when working upfield. He labors to get his big body moving out in space and is not a good lateral mover. He has heavy legs and shouldn't be relied upon much to get up to the second level and block linebackers far out of his range.
